Worthing shop shut following concerns vapes sold to children
The shop is now banned from occupation until 23rd September
Authorities in Worthing have taken decisive action against a local shop selling illicit tobacco products to minors.
EU Market, located on South Farm Road, is now banned from occupation until 23rd September following complaints from the community about illegal tobacco and vape sales to children.
The closure order, made under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime, and Policing Act, is a result of efforts by West Sussex Trading Standards and Sussex Police. Covert test purchases exposed counterfeit and duty-free tobacco sold at the premises.
Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for Worthing Sharon Sawyer emphasised the commitment to combat businesses flouting regulations.
"Premises which promote the sale of illicit goods show a flagrant disregard for the law, the local authority and the safety of the public by selling unregulated products," Sawyer said.
"We are committed to working with our wider network of partners, including Trading Standards, to take action wherever they are being sold and these efforts will not stop."
She asked residents for vigilance and reports on businesses suspected of similar activities.
“We appeal to the community to report similar businesses of concern, often with a constant change of stock and staff, where counterfeit goods are possibly being sold and underage sales are made,” Sawyer added.
