Woman ordered to pay £157k for running puppy farm in a caravan
Sussex Police say a dog and 35 puppies abandoned in squalor in 2021
A woman from Cambridgeshire has been ordered to pay £157,000 for running an illegal puppy farm in Eastbourne, Sussex.
36 year old Micaela Anderson-Letts from Ramsey, was sentenced on 7th January 2025 at Kingston Crown Court for causing unnecessary suffering to animals.
In July 2021, police officers and RSPCA inspectors found a dog and 35 puppies abandoned in poor conditions in a caravan on Lister Road, Eastbourne.
Fourteen of these puppies required urgent hospitalisation, with one tragically dying from dehydration and starvation.
The remaining animals were successfully re-homed after treatment.
Anderson-Letts admitted the charges, including failing to provide adequate transportation and medical care for the animals, which led to unnecessary suffering.
She received a suspended 24-month prison sentence, an animal banning order, and was tasked with completing 300 hours of unpaid work.
The financial investigation concluded with a Confiscation Order, requiring Anderson-Letts to pay £157,269.25 within three months to avoid an 18-month prison term.
