A Sussex Police officer who was charged with dangerous driving has been released with no further action taken after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS decided it was not in the public interest to pursue a criminal case.

PC James Kirk, 27, had been accused of driving a marked police vehicle dangerously while responding to an emergency call in Brighton on 4th September last year.

According to allegations, the officer drove through a red light and collided with a light goods vehicle (LGV) during the emergency response.

The CPS withdrew the charges against PC Kirk, advising that a prosecution was not deemed necessary in the public interest.

Although the criminal case will not proceed, the matter continues to be reviewed by Sussex Police’s Professional Standards Department. Potential misconduct proceedings are expected to be considered.
