A Sussex Police officer is scheduled to appear in court, charged with assaulting a 16-year-old girl.

PC Benedict Statton, aged 43, will face a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on 16th June.

The charge stems from an incident in Crawley where force was reportedly used during the arrest of a teenager.

The investigation into the case was conducted by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) starting in June 2024 and concluded in September 2025.

Following completion, the IOPC submitted a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which then authorised the charge after requesting further investigatory steps, concluded in May.
