Chichester District Council's confirmed work will begin on a section of the seawall at Selsey West Beach from the end of this month.

The work is required to take place to support the wider Selsey Coastal Scheme, which aims to strengthen current sea defences and ensure their long-lasting benefits.

Currently, the area of the West Beach is reaching the end of it's 'serviceable life', according to the Council, and risks failure if action isn't taken.

Work will get underway to ensure the coast is protected as best as possible from erosion, enabling better safeguarding of homes and a more resilient defence.

Construction is expected to take around 12 weeks, and is hoped to be finished ahead of the winter storm season.

According to Chichester District Council, the work will involve installing a new steel sheet-piled wall in front of the existing seawall; drilling into the current structure and filling any voids that are identified; and placing concrete between the new and existing structures to strengthen the defence.

Access to public footpaths will remain open for both residents and visitors, while the work takes place, with additional safety measures.
