Firefighters tackle blaze at thatched roof property in Pett Level

Residents urged to keep windows closed as fire crews respond

Early this morning, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fire at a domestic property on Cliff End Lane in Pett Level.

Called at 5.02am on 18th April, firefighters arrived on scene to find a blaze affecting a thatched roof.

Initially, four fire engines and two fire officers were deployed, utilising three main jets, pumping equipment, and fire hydrants to combat the flames.

Residents are advised to avoid the area, and those nearby should keep their windows and doors closed for safety.

At 7.00am, additional resources including a fire officer, water carrier, and a dual-purpose truck from Uckfield joined the scene as crews made progress.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

Efforts to control the fire were proving effective, and by 8.00am, the incident was scaled down to two fire engines.
