Forty-four year old David Newsom, of Regency Close, was arrested in November last year after the victim, who was just ten when the abuse began, bravely came forward.

The offences took place between 2017 and 2025.

Newsom pleaded guilty at Lewes Crown Court to eight offences, including rape, four counts of sexually assaulting a child under thirteen, and three counts of sexual activity with a child. He was sentenced at Brighton Crown Court on March twenty-third.

Detective Constable Nandi Luthuli, who led the investigation, praised the victim’s courage and urged other survivors of abuse to speak out, saying “there is no shame in speaking out, and you should never feel you have to suffer in silence.”
