A man from Berkshire who was caught driving at speeds over 100mph had to be stopped on the A23 north of Brighton.

36-year-old Alexander Morris was stopped by officers from the Specialist Enforcement Unit (SEU) and Roads Policing Unit (RPU) on patrol in the area stopped the black Mercedes C180 he was driving on the A264 at Crawley,

Morris, unemployed, of Mill Green, Caversham, Reading, Berkshire, was arrested and taken into custody, where he failed to give an evidential blood sample for drugs.

He was charged with driving without due care and attention, failing to provide a specimen of blood for analysis, possession of cannabis, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

Morris admitted all offences and appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 21 April, where he was disqualified from driving for 18 months, fined £400 fine and ordered to pay a £160 victim surcharge.

Inspector Ollie Pullen, of Operations Command, said: “The defendant showed a complete disregard for other road users through his manner of driving. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, he tried to evade police.

“Morris also failed a roadside drug test, indicating he may have been driving under the influence and over the prescribed limit, he subsequently failed to provide an evidential sample following his arrest.

“Let this serve as a reminder that anyone intent on using our road network to commit crime, or to drive while under the influence, should be under no illusion that - where proportionate - we will continue to use vehicle tactics to target offenders and keep all road users safe.
