51-year-old man dies after being recovered from the sea near Brighton Pier
Coroner informed as death not treated as suspicious
A 51-year-old man from Kettering has died after being recovered from the sea near Brighton Palace Pier.
Police were alerted at around 10.35am yesterday (1st January), when the man got into difficulty west of the pier.
He was brought ashore and received medical treatment but was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
The coroner has been notified, and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Brighton RNLI confirmed that they were tasked shortly after 10am to reports of a person struggling in the water.
The lifeboat was launched but stood down as the individual had already been recovered to the beach.
