Murder investigation launched after woman found dead in West Sussex

A murder investigation has been launched following the death a woman in her 60s in Durrington in West Sussex.

Sussex Police say they responded to reports of concern for a woman's welfare at a property in Durrington Lane, Worthing, on Thursday evening (14 May).

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

A 37-year-old man from Durrington has been arrested on suspicion of murder and assaulting a police officer.

Sussex Police confirmed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other, and investigations are continuing.

Detective Inspector Amanda Zinyama said: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the woman’s loved ones at this difficult time.

“We are in the early stages of a fast-moving investigation, and officers are carrying out extensive inquiries to establish the full circumstances.

“While we understand this incident will cause concern locally, we believe it to be isolated, with no threat to the wider community, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”

There will be an increased police presence in the area while inquiries continue.
