Former Lindfield primary teacher convicted of sexual assault on children
The children disclosed the incidents to adults who then contacted the police
A former primary school teacher from Lindfield has been convicted of sexual assault and false imprisonment charges involving two nine-year-old boys.
Joseph Haffenden, 32, admitted the offences at Lewes Crown Court on 20th July.
Haffenden was initially set to go on trial for six counts of sexual assault by touching and six counts of false imprisonment.
Reports were made to Sussex Police in February concerning assaults that occurred earlier in the year.
Haffenden called the assaults a 'game,' tickling the boys under their clothing using his hands, a feather, and an electric toothbrush.
The children disclosed the incidents to adults who then contacted the police.
Following an arrest, items were discovered at Haffenden’s property corroborating the boys' accounts.
After his arrest, Haffenden was suspended and subsequently dismissed from his teaching role.
Detective Sergeant Ellen Jones expressed gratitude for the young victims' bravery in reporting the crimes.
“I would urge any other victims of sexual offending to report to Sussex Police online or via 101,” Jones said.
Haffenden is currently remanded in custody and will face sentencing on 3rd September.
