A 27-year-old man is facing jail after admitting raping a woman in a car park in Worthing.

At Lewes Crown Court on Monday, Suleman Mukaish, of Cambridge Road, Worthing, pleaded guilty to the attack in Lyndurst Road car park in the West Sussex town on March 11th.

Judge Christine Laing KC ordered a pre-sentence report to assess his dangerousness as she described the case as “effectively a stranger rape”.

But she said the defendant should be under no illusion that a substantial custodial sentence appears inevitable.

Prosecutor Chetna Patel told the hearing Mukaish had no previous convictions and was arrested at Gatwick airport with a one-way ticket to Pakistan.

Defence counsel Zacharias Miah told the court Mukaish, who was assisted by an Urdu interpreter during the hearing, was of good character who had studied computer science in the UK, passed his Master’s and got a work visa.

He was cycling from work on his way home when the attack took place.

Mukaish will be sentenced on June 15th.
