Firefighters tackle major fire at Petworth property

Firefighters were called to a significant fire at a property on the A283 in Egdean, Petworth, at around 3am this morning.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said the entire roof space and first floor of the property ablaze upon arrival.

Two fire engines and an aerial ladder platform remained at the scene to damp down hotspots, and South East Coast Ambulance Service treated one person for smoke inhalation.

It's believed the fire to be accidental ignition, and all occupants were accounted for.
