A fire at Eastbourne Pier led to a full evacuation earlier today, with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service responding swiftly to the emergency.

The incident began at 10:24am on 30th August, with six fire crews and an aerial ladder platform deployed to combat the flames.

Firefighters used foam and breathing apparatus to prevent the fire from spreading further across the pier.

The pier's gas and electric supplies were isolated as a safety measure, and police support was sought to aid operations.

By 11:19am, crews had successfully extinguished the fire, and efforts are now focused on addressing hot spots and cutting away affected areas.

The surrounding roads have been closed to allow firefighters to work safely, and residents are reminded to maintain closed doors and windows to mitigate smoke exposure risks.

Authorities advise the public to avoid the area to facilitate emergency services' ongoing activities.
