The A27 has been closed following a major emergency response in the wake of a multivehicle collision.

Officers from Sussex Police, Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and the Environment Agency have been called to the scene to deal with the incident.

National Highways confirmed that there were crews at the scene after two lorries had collided with each other whilst heading westbound between the A293 near Portslade and the Southwick Tunnel.

Crews have also been deployed following a diesel spillage that has caused "substantial" damage to the road and the local environment.

National Highways have put diversions in place as it tries to move traffic away from the road, asking motorists to use other roads including the A293 and the A270.

They added in a statement: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
