Two boys arrested on suspicion of murder after 15-year-old stabbed in woodland
The two boys arrested were aged 15 and 16
Two boys aged 15 and 16 have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenager was found stabbed in a woodland.
The victim, who was also 15, was pronounced dead at the scene near Lido Road in Guildford after emergency services were called at 6.10pm on Monday evening (19 Jan).
While the victim has not been publicly identified, his family has been told.
Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward after the stabbing in a woodland near Stoke Park, where a police cordon remains in place.
The two boys remain in police custody.
On Tuesday (20 Jan), Detective Chief Superintendent Debbie White appealed for any witnesses to come forward "as a matter of urgency".
Chief Supt White said: "We want to reassure you that we are working at pace to establish the circumstances of the boy's death, gather as much evidence as possible and identify those responsible.
"Although the circumstances of the boy's death are not clear at this time, this is a fast-moving investigation, and we are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry.
"We would ask that people don't speculate about what might have happened while we work through these inquiries.
"We respectfully ask that people stay away from the area while we carry out our investigation.
"A significant police presence will remain in the area for some time."
Local MP Zoe Franklin wrote on Facebook: "It is difficult to find words for this tragic and devastating news. My heart goes out to the family of this young man."
Leader of Guildford Borough Council Julia McShane offered condolences too, saying: "I am shocked and saddened at this tragic event.
"The loss of a young life in this way is utterly devastating.
"My heart goes out to their family and friends at this desperately sad time."
Football club Guildford City, which has its home stadium near where the victim was found, posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter) to say the club was "devastated" at news of his death.
