Three horses die after collision on A3 in Surrey

Three horses have died following reports of two vehicles being involved in collision on the A3 Northbound Ripley bypass.

Surrey Police officers were called thee at around 1.40am on Thursday 15 Januay after reports of two loose horses being struck by a lorry. There was then a second call regarding a collision between a car and a third horse.

A road closure is in place on the A3 Northbound Ripley Bypass, with traffic being diverted off at Send.

Officers are engaging with the drivers of both vehicles as part of ongoing enquiries.

Diversions are in place as National Highways look to carefully remove the animals from the road.

NAtional Highways says: "Specialist clean up works remain ongoing on the A3 northbound between the A247 Burntcommon and the B2039 Ockham following the earlier collision."

They say previous delays of up to 60 minutes on approach to the closure have eased.
