House fires are an "ongoing problem" for the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

We can reveal the number of house fires across the country is on the rise with one breaking out every 20 minutes.

Incidents have risen more than four per cent in England in the last year.

James Lucy, Assistant Director of Community Safety at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, said: "House fires continue to be an ongoing problem.

"That's largely for a number of reasons.

"Firstly, around the electrical products and electrical safety, but also we're seeing continuing trends around cooking fires and smoking in the home.

"So all of the risks that we bring inside our homes and the impacts they can have on us as humans.

"Both nationally and locally, they continue to be a problem.

"Much of that is related to the ongoing increase in the amount of products that we use on a daily basis that make our lives either easier or more effective.

"This is particularly around those products that we're required to charge or those that contain lithium ion."

Mr Lucy's sharing his advice.

He added: "With electrical items, try and purchase them from a reputable retailer and also try to consider those with a warranty.

"Maintain them in good condition, clean, and look for signs of damage or wear and tear that could impact the product."
