Dispersal order launched in Fleet to address anti-social behaviour
Police prepare for busy weekend as Christmas events attract visitors
A dispersal order has been put in place in Fleet town centre this weekend to tackle reported issues of anti-social behaviour and public order incidents during the busy night-time economy.
The order, authorised under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, will be in effect from 7pm today (Friday 12th December) until 5am on Sunday 14th December. It covers a specific area marked on a police map and allows officers to require individuals to leave the designated area without returning during the order’s timeframe. Failure to comply could result in arrest.
Response to reports of anti-social behaviour
The decision to implement the dispersal order follows reports of anti-social behaviour, public order offences, and assaults during Fleet’s night-time economy. Police expect a busy weekend as visitors arrive for Christmas-themed events taking place in the town centre.
Hart Inspector Lisa Eastlake provided reassurance to those attending the festive activities: “We want people to enjoy the town centre, but I want to be clear that anti-social behaviour and public order incidents will not be tolerated – and offenders will be dealt with robustly.”
Inspector Eastlake added: “Officers will be patrolling the area this weekend, so if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak with a uniformed officer.”
Focus on the community
The dispersal order stipulates that children aged 10-16 who are issued notices will be taken home to their parents or guardians, with follow-up activity carried out by officers to address behaviour concerns.
Officers will conduct patrols throughout the weekend to enforce the order when necessary. Police are urging those affected by anti-social behaviour in Fleet to report it. These reports help target patrols and guide proactive action.
