Football fans heading to the East Anglian derby between Norwich City and Ipswich Town on Saturday, 11 April, are being advised to carefully plan their journeys amid major rail disruption.

Train operator Greater Anglia has confirmed that ongoing engineering works will suspend all direct rail services between Ipswich and Norwich for the day. Replacement bus services will be in place, but capacity is expected to be extremely limited.

Supporters have instead been encouraged to take advantage of travel options arranged by Ipswich Town Football Club. These include official coaches departing from Portman Road, as well as shuttle services running from Postwick Park & Ride to Lower Clarence Road.

Passengers considering rail replacement buses are being warned that these services are not designed to handle the large crowds typically travelling to derby fixtures. In addition, overall journey times are likely to be significantly longer than usual, especially during peak travel periods.

Greater Anglia said it is coordinating closely with the football club, local authorities, and police to help manage the increased demand and ensure safe travel arrangements are in place for fans attending the match.

Martin Moran, Greater Anglia’s Commercial and Customer Services Director, said:

“We recognise this is an important fixture for both sets of supporters and we have been working closely with Ipswich Town Football Club and partners to ensure travel arrangements are clear, with the best possible alternative options, given the essential engineering work taking place."
