Suffolk names Mark Webster as interim police chief following recruitment challenge
Experienced leader steps in as search for permanent position continues

Suffolk will welcome Mark Webster as the new Acting Chief Constable for its Constabulary following an extensive recruitment process was unable to secure a permanent leader.
Webster, who recently retired as Chief Constable from Cleveland, will take on the interim role to provide stability during this transitional period.
Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Tim Passmore, indicated plans to advertise for a permanent Chief Constable early next year.
Current Chief Constable Rachel Kearton is set to retire in October.
Passmore commented on Webster's appointment: “Despite an extensive recruitment process, we were unable to secure a substantive Chief Constable and whilst our long-term plan is to secure a substantive Chief, Mark will provide stability for the force in this time of significant change."
Webster is recognized for his strong reputation and extensive experience in policing, which Passmore believes will benefit Suffolk's law enforcement agency.
Passmore expressed his appreciation, stating, "I look forward to working with Mark and I am grateful that he is prepared to come to Suffolk to help us out.”
Mark Webster shared his enthusiasm to take on the interim role and support Suffolk Constabulary's officers and staff.
“I look forward to bringing my policing experience to support the officers and staff of Suffolk Constabulary and help maintain it as one of the safest places in the country to live,” Webster said.
His appointment includes covering the current Chief’s annual leave and eventually her retirement, maintaining continuity in leadership for Suffolk Constabulary during significant times of change.
