Healthcare services across Suffolk and north east Essex will continue to provide care and support despite the industrial action by resident doctors from 7.00 a.m. on 17th December to 7.00 a.m. on 22nd December.

The NHS in the region is facing significant winter pressures due to rising flu cases and respiratory conditions, but clinics, GP practices, and dental surgeries will remain open as usual. Flu and COVID vaccination clinics will also operate, with details available at www.sneevaccine.org.uk .

Patients who have planned appointments or procedures should attend as normal unless notified otherwise. To help manage healthcare needs during the strike period, people are encouraged to use NHS 111 for urgent medical advice or symptom concerns. Local pharmacies are also available for medical advice without requiring appointments. For life-threatening emergencies, people should call 999 or go to the nearest emergency department without delay.

In addition, the public is urged to support the NHS by only using emergency services for genuine emergencies, contacting GP practices or pharmacists for non-urgent concerns, and managing appointments responsibly.

Dr Frankie Swords, Executive Medical Director NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board, said: “People should be assured that staff and services across the NHS will still be on hand to provide care and support to those who need it. However, there is no denying that this is a very busy time, so please do all you can to help, by choosing the right service for your health care needs.”
