The Lowestoft & Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club has suspended all racing activity at Oulton Broad following a tragic accident.
Last Thursday evening (24 July) an incident took place that resulted in the death of club member Brett Duncan.
In an official communication issued on 29 July, Commodore Peter Mantripp confirmed that the decision to halt racing was made after extensive discussions with external parties, including the Circuit Powerboat Association (CPA). The suspension will remain in place until a preliminary report is published by the relevant authorities.
Brett Duncan, described as a “valued club member and friend to many,” was a prominent figure within the powerboat racing community. His death has deeply affected those involved in the sport, both personally and professionally.
“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Brett’s wife and children,” said Mantripp. “Their lives have been devastated by recent events, and we pledge our absolute full support to them at this extremely difficult time.”
The club acknowledged the disappointment the suspension may cause but emphasized that pausing activity in the wake of such a serious incident is standard procedure. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing, and the club is working closely with the CPA and relevant authorities to support the process.
“We have no control over how quickly a preliminary report will be available,” said the statement. “But the CPA and club management are doing all they can to ensure progress is made as swiftly as possible.”
The club also took the opportunity to thank its safety teams, officials, and management for their professionalism and resilience during the crisis.
