A man has been jailed for three months in relation to breach of an Anti-Social Behaviour Injunction in Bury St Edmunds.

36 year-old William Jermyn, of Saltsman Road in Bury St. Edmunds, was arrested on Thursday 25 September in on Cornhill in Bury St Edmunds and was taken into custody.

He was subsequently charged with six counts of breaching an Anti-Social Behaviour Injunction for offences committed on 15, 16 and 25 September.

Inspector Joseph Nettleton of Bury St Edmunds Community Policing Team said: “Alcohol related anti-social behaviour is a priority for the Community Team in Bury St Edmunds. Since the Community Team was formed in December 2023 a huge amount of work has gone in to tackling alcohol related crime and disorder in the town centre.

“The Community Team have focused on enforcing the Public Space Protection Order, using our powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act and looking at the use of civil orders such as an ASB injunctions. We also continue to work with our partners to support those with dependencies and direct them away from criminality. A multi-agency working group is in force where monthly meetings are held to identify those in need of support.

“However, we recognise the impact alcohol related anti-social behaviour can have on our communities and for those who do not wish to engage in support services and continue to be involved in criminality and anti-social behaviour we will look to deal with them in a robust manner.”
