Man charged after fatal crash in Ixworth

A 41-year-old man has been charged with causing death by careless driving and other offences, following a fatal collision in Ixworth.

Police were called at 2.40pm on Monday 7 July to a two-vehicle collision on the A143, involving a blue Ford Focus and a grey Honda Jazz.

The driver of the Honda Jazz was taken to West Suffolk Hospital by the Ambulance Service, but he sadly died there a short time later.

A 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Howard Hughes, of no fixed address, has subsequently been charged with four offences as follows:

  • Causing death by careless driving
  • Causing death by driving a vehicle whilst unlicensed
  • Causing death by driving whilst uninsured
  • Driving a motor vehicle after revocation of a driving licence.

Hughes has been remanded in custody.
