Man arrested after serious assault in Suffolk

A man has been arrested after a serious assault in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday night.

Police were called at 8:05pm, to reports that a man in his 50s been seriously assaulted in the St Olaves shopping precinct.

The victim sustained a significant head injury and was taken to hospital, where he remains.

He is described as being in a critical condition at this time.

In the early hours of yesterday, Sunday, police arrested a man in his 50s, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. The suspect has been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre to be questioned by officers. At this early stage of the investigation, it is believed that the suspect and victim are known to each other and police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the assault.
