Ipswich Witches promoter Chris Louis to step down and sell the club
Louis shared the decision with fans following a meeting on Thursday
Chris Louis, promoter of speedway club Ipswich Witches, has announced he will step down from his role and sell the club ahead of the 2026 season.
Louis shared the decision with fans following a meeting on Thursday (20 November), expressing his gratitude to everyone who has supported him throughout his time with the club.
In a statement, Louis reflected on his lifelong connection with the Witches, both as a rider and promoter.
“The Ipswich Witches have been a part of my entire life, from running around the trees on the terraces with a Coke can on my left foot, to being a proud member of the side including winning the title in 98, through to promoting the side and another title in 2025," Louis said.
“Through the great times and the tough times, the riders, fans, sponsors, staff and my wife Julie have been right behind me. There are too many to name here, but we did it together and that’s what has made my time with the Witches so very special."
Louis also paid tribute to his father, John Louis, who together have contributed over seven decades to the club. Despite stepping down, Louis hopes to continue his involvement in the sport through the Tiger’s Academy.
Ipswich Witches co-promoter Ritchie Hawkins will also be stepping away from his duties, though he plans to release his own message to the club soon. Louis thanked him and fellow rider Danny King for their unwavering support during his time at the club.
Louis noted that he will spend the coming months working to ensure the club is left in "safe hands" and expressed his hope that its legacy will continue under new stewardship.
He also thanked the club’s sponsors for their crucial role in the Witches' success, with a special mention to Guy Nicholls and his support through the Tru7 Group.
“Some things no longer align for me, and unfortunately it is time to step aside, but I leave the club and the sport with so many great memories that will last forever,” Louis said.
Further updates are expected in the coming weeks regarding the sale of Ipswich Witches.
