An Ipswich man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for a violent attack on two police officers.

Xander Butler, 23, was found guilty of intentional strangulation, assault by beating of an emergency worker, and criminal damage at Ipswich Crown Court.

The incident occurred on 29th July at a hotel in Capel St Mary, where Butler violently assaulted two female officers. Upon arrival, responding to reports of damage inside a hotel room, Butler threw one officer into a wall and strangled her before attacking her colleague.

Both officers suffered injuries, with one requiring hospital treatment for facial swelling and bruising. The assault was described as one of the worst seen by their sergeant.

Victim impact statements revealed the ongoing emotional distress caused by the attack, including nightmares and anxiety affecting their work life.

PC Lauren Birch led the investigation and stated, "This was a serious assault on two officers carrying out their duties. Everyone has the right to go to work without facing violence."
