Fixed camera offences in Suffolk have tripled in the past year, a report has shown.

The increase was revealed in a report on road safety revealed last month during a Police and Crime Commissioner’s (PCC) accountability and performance panel meeting.

It showed fixed camera offences increased by 208 per cent between the 2023/24 and 2024/25 financial years, from 575 to 1769.

The report says the increase was driven by two new cameras being operational on the A12 junction and pedestrian crossing at the new Brightwell Lakes Development, which accounted for 842 offences.

The remaining increase was from the fixed sites on the A12 at Benhall, with an extra 211, and on the A140 at Codenham, with a 139 rise.

Suffolk Police saw increases across other speed enforcement measures, including an 82 per cent rise in Community Enforcement Officer reports, from 18,427 to 33,623.

The increase, the report says, is due to enforcement being carried out in urban areas.

Speeding accounted for nine collisions where someone was killed or seriously injured.
