Former school destroyed by fire in Haverhill
Emergency services urge public to avoid Park Road area
Firefighters have been working overnight to tackle a significant blaze at the site of a former school in Haverhill.
Crews from various stations have been involved in the operation at the former Parkway Middle School on Park Road, with initially nine fire engines attending the scene at around 8:20pm on Tuesday (12 May).
The fire service has reported receiving over 60 calls from the public as smoke is visible from a long distance away.
Residents in the area have been advised to keep windows and doors shut.
The public is urged to avoid the area unless absolutely necessary and to allow emergency services unobstructed access.
By 9.35pm, the number of fire engines at the site increased to 12.
At 10.13pm, the situation was described as severe, with 90% of the building involved in fire and partially collapsing.
As of 12.15am, a large multi-agency presence remains at the site, addressing the challenges posed by the collapsing structure of the derelict building.
