Tribute paid to fatal Bury St Edmunds assault victim
Scott Lisney sustained a critical head injury after being attacked
A family has paid a heartfelt tribute to a much-loved man who died following a serious assault in Bury St Edmunds last week.
Scott Lisney, 56, of Bury St Edmunds, sustained a critical head injury after being attacked in the St Olaves shopping precinct on the evening of Saturday, 26 July.
Emergency services were called at 8:05pm and Mr Lisney was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, where he sadly passed away.
His identity was confirmed by police, pending formal inquest proceedings. Suffolk Constabulary released a tribute on behalf of his grieving family.
“We are saddened by the sudden loss of our Scott, who was a much-loved son, brother, father and uncle,” the statement read.
“He was a kind-hearted man who would do anything for anybody and was a much-loved character in the community who was full of fun and a smart and snappy dresser, well known for wearing his suits.
“We are all feeling a strong sense of loss from the hole that has been left but we would like to thank everybody for their kind words. We would now request time to grieve at this difficult moment.”
Suffolk Police are treating the case as a homicide investigation and are working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to pursue legal proceedings.
Andrew Allen, 54, of Severn Road, Bury St Edmunds, was arrested in the early hours of Sunday, 27 July, in connection with the incident. Initially charged with causing grievous bodily harm, Allen was remanded in custody following a hearing at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 28 July. He is scheduled to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday, 26 August.
Officers confirmed that the suspect and victim were known to each other and reassured the public that no other suspects are being sought at this time.
Suffolk Constabulary continues to support the Lisney family through their loss and is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
