He joined us on Hits Radio Breakfast
Last updated 23rd Jan 2026
Following the release of his first new music in three years, 'Aperture', Harry Styles joined Hits Radio Breakfast with Fleur East, Will and James to chat about his upcoming album, new tour and One Direction.
During the chat Harry also opened up about his return to music after three years, telling us: "It feels really exciting," going onto explain that he didn’t want to return just because time had passed, or because it felt like he should.
He continued: "So it just got to a point where I'd finished the album, I was living with it for a while and it was like, OK, the music's ready, I feel really excited about it. I'm excited to play it to people and that's making me excited."

The meaning behind his album name
The singer, who is just a couple of months away from releasing his highly-anticipated fourth solo album ‘Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally.' told us the inspiration behind the album's unusual name.
"It's like a life mantra," he explained, going on to joke: "It's unhealthy to disco all the time."
He continued: "So I think, you know, like loving and being, moving through your life with love and like taking a break every now and again to like have some fun, I think is a really good way to approach your life.
"And that's what I felt like I did the last couple of years and it led to like just positive changes in my life."
Harry then joked: "You can probably stop (kissing) to eat and stuff - definitely an extended lunch break - and then right back to it… I spent a lot of time with Italians the last year or so and they’re kissing all the time so… it’s just art imitating life."
The singer then explained how his clubbing days inspired the album a bit, saying: "I think what was so amazing for me about the last couple of years is getting to be like a true, like audience member. Spending a lot of time on the stage, it's really easy to forget what it feels like to be in a pit and be with people, dancing like that and it's like magical.
"That feeling of togetherness and community that you have is... it was like an amazing reminder for me to kind of be on that side of it.
"I think the feeling that I had in my musical experiences around that kind of led to the, like ‘we belong together’ idea of just like, oh, this is, you know, ‘this is what life is about.’ It's about like being with people and sharing moments with people and when you open up more in your life, you allow more positivity and more life into your life."
Are there any collabs on his album?
Collabs are super popular at the moment and with a new album coming out many fans had been speculating that it could be full of collabs. However, surprising us all, Harry confirmed there are no collabs on 'Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally.' saying: "There are no collabs on this album! Yeah, just me."
New single 'Aperture'
Earlier this week, Harry announced the first song from his upcoming album. The single, called 'Aperture' is out now and he opened up about why it he chose it as the first single to be released.
"I think for me, like the making of the whole album was a really just important time in my life," he explained. "I think kind of taking a big like step away from everything. I just learned a lot about like myself and the way that I wanted to work and stuff going forward, I think.
"And I think as we were kind of like discovering things in the studio and things were happening, I just started realising when I would play it to people, this (‘Aperture’) was always the first song that I would play.
"So, it became like Track 1 on the album, and I think that was really just because that's what I wanted to set the tone with when I played people the music.
"So it kind of felt like just a natural, like this is what I want people to hear first to kind of like set the stage for it."
What we can expect from the 'Together Together Tour'?
Harry joined us just hours after he announced he would be going on tour, and the singer told us what we could expect when he arrives at Wembley this summer.
Harry explained: "I think it's just so about having fun together and I think being together includes me being with them. I think like the feeling of it's like me up here and you guys down there is a lot about what this album is, has been about trying to like to remove, I think it's a lot of...
"I think when I listen to the album, it's like, it's kind of encouraging, like I want you to have your experiences it's less about listen to me, have my experiences.
"And I think I want that to be the feeling with the tour as well, I want it to feel like, oh, we're just all, I'm also here dancing with you, I'm here for the same thing that you're here for, you know?"
Harry Styles on One Direction
Speaking to the team via Zoom from America, Harry opened up about his time with One Direction telling the team: "I'm really glad that I've done that because there's some, you know, pictures that I find sometimes from like touring with One Direction that I kind of forgot that I'd taken."

2010: The X Factor
Harry Styles auditioned for the seventh series of The X Factor as a solo artist, singing a version of Steve Wonder's 'Isn't She Lovely'. Harry made it to Boot Camp on his own but failed to make it to Judges' Houses. Therefore, he and four other boys who didn't make the cut were put together as a group by Nicole Scherzinger - and the rest is history!
Harry, along with Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and the late Liam Payne, reached the final of The X Factor as One Direction and finished in third place.
2011-2015: One Direction – the world’s biggest boyband
After releasing their first single 'That's What Makes You Beautiful' back in 2011, the boys quickly started to take over the world. Harry and the 1D boys went on to enjoy huge success, winning over 200 awards including seven BRIT Awards and four MTV Video Music Awards.
One Direction achieved four UK Number 1 albums and one Top 5 album throughout their time together, along with four UK Number 1 singles and five UK Top 10 singles which spent an incredible 56 weeks in the Top 10 from 2011-2015. Harry and the 1D boys released four albums as a five-piece - 'Up All Night', 'Take Me Home', 'Midnight Memories' and 'Four'.
2015: One Direction's extended hiatus
In 2015, Zayn announced he was leaving the band and Harry, Niall, Louis and Liam made the decision to carry on as a four-piece. Harry and the boys then released album 'Made in the A.M.' which included 'Drag Me Down', 'Infinity' and 'Perfect' as singles.
The fifth studio album reached Number 1 on the UK album charts. Following its release, Harry and his bandmates announced they were going on an extended hiatus in 2016, focusing on their solo careers and individual opportunities.
2017: Harry’s first solo album & Dunkirk
Harry released his first solo single 'Sign of the Times', which went straight to Number 1 in the UK, proving a success as the power ballad won a BRIT Award for British Video of the Year. Harry's self-titled debut album immediately went to Number 1 on its release in several countries, including the UK.
This album showed a new side of the star that fans had not seen during his One Direction days as the record was made up of soft rock tracks. Harry then released two more singles, 'Two Ghosts' and 'Kiwi' from the album.
Harry also released a documentary about the making of his album in 2017. Entitled Harry Styles: Behind the Album, the 50-minute film showed a behind-the-scenes look at Harry's recording process. The success continued for Harry as he made his feature film acting debut in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, where he played a British soldier named Alex.
2018: 'Harry Styles: Live On Tour'
Harry performed on his first solo tour, Harry Styles: Live On Tour, throughout the first half of 2018. Beginning in late 2017 at smaller, more intimate venues, he then visited arenas throughout 2018, performing almost 90 dates all over the world. Harry also performed with legendary band Fleetwood Mac in early 2018, and has since built up a close friendship with frontwoman Stevie Nicks.

2021: ‘Treat People with Kindness’, first GRAMMY and more BRITs
Harry kicked off 2021 in style by releasing the video to up-beat toe-tapper 'Treat People with Kindness' which shows himself and Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge dancing in a very stylish old-school video. The popularity of the video launched the track back into the top half of the charts at Number 2, 56 weeks after its initial release!
