Two women and a child have been injured after a gas canister exploded at a house in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Crews were called at around 3.20pm yesterday (25 June) to a property on Main Road in Hollington.

A small butane gas cannister, which had been on a table in direct sunlight, had exploded.

Two women and a toddler suffered minor burns. They were treated at the scene and then taken to hospital.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are urging people to be cautious around the use of gas cannisters during the heatwave.

A statement from the service said: "Compressed gas cannisters can be dangerous if damaged, heated, or used incorrectly.

"Cans should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated location, away from direct sunlight, radiators, or open fires."
