Wistaston man jailed for six years for online child sexual offences
Rory Need from Crewe convicted for crimes against a 9-year-old girl
Rory Need, a 37-year-old from Wistaston, Crewe, has received a sentence of six years and six months in prison at Chester Crown Court.
Need's sentencing comes after his conviction for multiple offences related to online child sexual abuse.
He was found guilty of possessing, creating, and distributing indecent images of children, causing a child to participate in sexual activity, and engaging in sexual communication with a minor.
His arrest took place in March 2024 when Dyfed-Powys Police connected a Snapchat account involved in illegal activities with a 9-year-old girl to Need.
The investigation uncovered numerous indecent images on his electronic devices.
Detective Constable Faye Taylor emphasized the threat Need poses to children, stating he targeted his victim through social media.
DC Taylor said, “Through the use of social media, he specifically targeted a 9-year-old girl, plying her with sexualised messages and indecent images in order to fulfil his own sexual desires."
Aside from his prison sentence, Need must register as a sex offender indefinitely and adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
