Developer Persimmon Homes has put forward proposals to build 114 homes on land west of Galingale View in Newcastle, adjacent to the former Walleys Quarry landfill site.

The site will feature a mix of housing types, including more than 30 affordable homes, along with public open spaces and play areas.

Access is proposed from Galingale View, Dill Close, and Gadwall Croft.

The application follows a public consultation held earlier this year.

A design and access statement included with the application detailed changes made in response to feedback.

These include a wider buffer alongside the watercourse, adjusted housing layouts, and improved footpath connections through the green corridor.

Additionally, a rear parking court and redesigned turning heads aim to reduce visual impact.

An odour assessment by environmental consultants RSK found no significant odour effects from the former landfill site.

The Environment Agency's improvements to the site have mitigated potential emissions concerns, according to the report.
