Tamworth wife pays tribute to husband after caravan park collision
David Ratcliffe remembered by wife Pauline as a loving husband and grandfather
Pauline Ratcliffe has paid an emotional tribute to her husband, David Ratcliffe, who died following a collision at a caravan park in Whitchurch.
Dave, who was 81 years old and from Tamworth, passed away on 11th May due to injuries from the collision on 25th April at Mile Bank Farm.
Pauline reflected on their 41-year relationship, saying, “We had been together for 41 years and married for 40 years, in that time we spent most of our working lives together, as well as our spare time and time with family."
She described Dave as a quiet man who loved spending time at the caravan site, stating, “This was meant to be our last year in the caravan ending in October."
The couple met in Lichfield, managing pubs across Staffordshire, before Dave joined the prison service.
Together, they ran a caravan site for three years and later became dog sitters.
Pauline noted Dave’s helpful nature and his love for his grandchildren, recalling how he dressed as Santa for her daughter's childminding service.
“He was a lovely man, a brilliant grandfather, stepfather, husband, and a great friend," she shared.
Dave will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
As inquiries continue, a 13-year-old girl and a 48-year-old man involved in the collision remain on police bail.
