A new £100 million 'student village' with space for around 1,000 students has opened at the University of Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent.

The Student Village includes new and refurbished bedrooms in a mix of cluster blocks and townhouses.

There's also a new building, the 'Village Hub', with study areas and social spaces.

It was officially opened today (Friday 11 September) by the university's vice-chancellor, Professor Philip Plowden, and its chancellor, Major Levison Wood.

The development is connected to the university's Leek Road campus by a new pedestrian bridge.

Students are due to move into the accommodation for the start of the new academic year (2027).

The university says it will bring around 1,000 students into the area, as part of wider regeneration projects taking place in Stoke-on-Trent.

The new accommodation also includes 24-hour on-site security and controlled access.

The development was built by construction company Willmott Dixon and is being operated by Pinnacle Group alongside the university.

Crowd gathered for the opening.

Professor Plowden said: “The Student Village is one of the most significant investments we have ever made in our students’ experience.

“This development gives our students an outstanding place to live, study and build community, right at the heart of our Stoke-on-Trent campus.”
