A man from Stoke-on-Trent has been convicted of aggravated burglary and arson after breaking into a home with a knife and inflicting serious injuries on another man.

Sean McCann, 40, of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to the charges at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 26th October.

Police were called to Blakelow Road in Abbey Hulton on 13th September following reports of a car fire. Officers found the front door of the registered car keeper's home open, discovering a man inside with severe injuries, including a fractured eye socket and broken nose.

The victim was promptly taken to hospital, while police launched an investigation to uncover the incident's circumstances.

After analysing CCTV footage and conducting forensic tests, McCann was identified as the perpetrator and subsequently arrested, although he initially denied involvement.

Evidence found in McCann's car, including a flick knife, contributed to his guilty plea.

DC Andrew Cannon from CID North stated, "An incident of this nature is bound to have a substantial effect both physically and mentally on the victim."

McCann has been remanded in custody and is due for sentencing on 5th February 2027.
