A man has been found guilty to a number of offences including rape and sexual assault after a two-week trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

David Andrew Spence, a 46-year-old man from the Fenton area of Stoke-on-Trent pleaded guilty at the beginning of the trial to assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.

After the trial, a jury also found him guilty of two counts of sexual assault on a female, rape, assault by penetration and engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour.

The trial heard how the offences had taken place over a one-year period between August 2024 and August 2025.

Spencer will now be sentenced at a further hearing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on November 30th.

Speaking on the ruling, Hannah Fisher, of the rape and serious sexual offences unit (RASSO) of Staffordshire Police, said: “Spencer subjected the victim to a prolonged campaign of physical, mental, and sexual abuse and I am glad the jury has convicted him of his crimes.

“I would like to commend the immense bravery of the victim throughout this investigation, and I hope this conviction offers her some form of closure.”
