Fresh wildfire warnings as temperatures rise in Staffordshire
Public urged to avoid fire sites and prevent further incidents
With temperatures set to climb to 34C this week, Staffordshire residents are being warned about high wildfire risks and advised to avoid recently affected areas.
Staffordshire County Council's countryside officers are damping down hotspots at Sherbrook Valley, following a recent wildfire that ravaged approximately 21 football pitches worth of heathland, with extensive wildlife loss.
This fire occurred last Wednesday, causing considerable damage, and while its cause remains undetermined, recovery is expected to take years.
Fire crews have departed the site, but the county council's rangers continue efforts to prevent further reignition.
Residents are asked to steer clear of Sherbrook Valley, off Chase Road, and adhere to road closures.
In response to ongoing high wildfire risks, the public is reminded to avoid activities that could spark fires, such as using barbecues, lighting campfires, and improperly discarding cigarettes in country parks, along with taking home litter.
Hayley Coles, Staffordshire County Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, highlighted the situation: "Emergency services have been dealing with a large volume of wildfires recently due to the hot and dry conditions we've been having."
Efforts by the fire service, countryside team, and partners such as The National Trust and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust have been praised for their role in managing the blaze.
Residents are urged to continue avoiding the fire site in Sherbrook Valley and respecting Chase Road closures for safety.
