Staffordshire County Council's Trading Standards service has been credited with preventing more than £23 million in financial harm during the 2025/26 financial year.

New figures reveal efforts have saved £23.07 million in consumer detriment.

A substantial £7.99 million was saved by combating scams and doorstep crime.

The service contacted 140 known scam victims to provide direct support and advice, safeguarding those most at risk.

Enforcement led to eight successful prosecutions, with financial penalties against offenders and 12 closure orders to shut down premises linked to criminal or antisocial activities.

Overall, 43 businesses faced formal enforcement action.

Trading Standards removed or prevented over 28,000 unsafe or non-compliant products from reaching consumers, including counterfeit and illicit goods.

This outcome not only protected residents from dangerous items but also supported legitimate businesses.

Anthony Screen, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Resilience, highlighted the service’s commitment to tackling illegal trading practices and protecting communities.

"Our officers continue to take firm action against rogue traders while also supporting legitimate businesses to thrive," Screen said.

The Trading Standards service demonstrates considerable value, showing that each £1 spent saves £11 in consumer detriment.

Furthermore, the team's work has bolstered economic growth, offering advice to more than 1,200 businesses.

95 per cent of businesses visited were found to be compliant or achieved compliance after receiving support.

Focus remains on prevention, enforcement, and education to ensure the safety and resilience of Staffordshire residents while fostering a fair local economy.
