Public urged to assist in preventing fires as Staffordshire faces strain
Firefighters hospitalised while battling major fires

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is calling on the public to help prevent further fires following a challenging night that saw several major blazes across the county, including Goldenhill, Parkhall, Tamworth, and Cannock Chase.
Six firefighters were hospitalised due to smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion while working to contain the fires in sweltering conditions.
Chief Fire Officer Glynn Luznyj confirmed that the fires are now under control, but resources remain stretched due to unprecedented demand.
While five of the hospitalised firefighters have been discharged, one is still recovering, highlighting the risks they face protecting the community.
The fire service urges everyone to act responsibly, avoiding the burning of garden waste and ensuring barbecues are conducted safely away from vegetation with accessible water or sand.
Luznyj expressed gratitude for community support as locals have provided food, refreshments, and furniture to those affected by fires.
Firefighters have also tackled numerous fires at Park Hall Country Park this week, including one yesterday (Thursday 13 August) and two on Tuesday (11 August).
Inspector Rebecca Price, of the Stoke-on-Trent south local policing team, said: “We have a number of ongoing investigations in relation to recent fires across the city.
“Starting fires deliberately can land you with a criminal record, which will stay with you for life and impact your future prospects.
“I would reiterate that people need to be responsible and enjoy the outdoors safely this Summer.
“People should avoid having barbeques in the countryside and if you are going to have one at home, do so responsibly and keep them away from vegetation.
“Please remember to take all your rubbish home and dispose of cigarettes properly as one spark can quickly escalate to a large fire.”
