A biker who sped through temporary traffic lights in Kelsall at over 100mph, has avoided being sent to prison.

Kerion Griffiths, 31, of Longfield Avenue in Chester, received a 12 month sentence suspended for 18 months at Chester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 12 November.

The court heard how, on Saturday 2 August, Griffiths sped past a group of bikes at the lights.

He was spotted by a uniformed motorcycle officer from Cheshire Police's Roads and Crime Unit, who set off after him in pursuit.

Griffiths failed to pull over when asked to do so, but was stopped and searched when his green Kawasaki was spotted in Ellesmere Port a week later.

He was found to be under the influence of drugs, and there was cannabis in his bag.

A further search of his home uncovered more cannabis, and he was arrested again while in custody.

He has also been banned from driving for 18 months, and fined a £272 court charge.

Sergeant Andy Griffiths, of the Constabulary’s Motorcycle Unit, said: "It was clear that Keiron Griffiths was using our roads as a racetrack and had no intention to stop travelling at dangerously high speeds that the pursuing officer observed.

“Not only this, but when arrested by colleagues a week later, he was found to be over drug drive limit and in possession of cannabis.

"High speeds paired with riding under the influence of illegal substance only further increased the risk his posed to other road users, pedestrians and himself.
