Nursing home in Silverdale placed in special measures by regulator
Care Quality Commission finds improvements needed despite change of operator
A nursing home in North Staffordshire has been placed in special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an assessment that found various areas needing improvement.
Silverdale Nursing Home, previously operated by Silverdale Care Homes Limited until its change to Assist Domiciliary Care Limited last month, received an overall rating of inadequate.
This decision comes more than a year after conditions were placed on its operator due to failures within the service.
The assessment conducted in May and June revealed deficiencies in safety and leadership, although Silverdale Nursing Home was commended for being responsive and caring.
The report highlighted continued issues with person-centred care and governance and identified a new breach concerning safeguarding.
According to the report, “Systems in place were not consistently effective, and there was insufficient evidence that lessons were learned when incidents occurred.”
It added that safeguarding processes were often not properly followed, which could potentially endanger residents.
The inspection also pointed to inadequacies in environmental monitoring and medication management.
Despite these shortcomings, the report acknowledged some areas of good practice, including functional infection control procedures and staff dedication to residents' health needs.
While residents and their relatives praised the kind and respectful nature of the staff, the feedback on the service's ability to meet individual needs was mixed.
Some relatives highlighted a lack of meaningful activities and personalized support for residents.
Silverdale Nursing Home has yet to comment on the report findings.
