Improvement work on the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent has begun.

A £5 million contract was signed to transform the space, after Stoke-on-Trent City Council received the money from the government's Cultural Development Fund.

Construction work include:

  • a new entrance
  • a new foyer café
  • improved public spaces
  • increased open storage meaning artefacts can be seen by the public when not on display
  • an artist in residence room where artists can create art alongside the museum's collections

Preparatory work has already been completed, and the main construction work will begin this month (February).

The museum is set to partially reopen from 28th March 2026.
