Plans have been submitted for a new attraction at Alton Towers.

Theme park operator Merlin Entertainments has put forward a planning application for a walk-through attraction in the X-Sector area.

This area is currently home to rides including Oblivion and The Smiler.

Documents submitted to the local council show the proposal would be built on the site where the Enterprise ride was.

Early images on the council’s planning portal show a single-storey structure.

A design, access and heritage impact statement explains: “Although the elevations show a simple structural shell, this is intentional: final decorative theming will be added by the resort’s creative team in accordance with the area’s existing visual language.”

The statement adds: “The design aims to reinforce the X-Sector’s futuristic/industrial theme, reuse previously developed land, create a contemporary attraction without altering heritage landscapes (and) maintain a modest, subservient scale relative to adjacent rides.”

Further details outline how the attraction would be laid out.

The application states: “The development is proposed on the site previously occupied by the Enterprise ride within the X-Sector area of the theme park. The proposal entails a new single-storey enclosed walk-through attraction structure, with internal themed walk-through rooms and staff operational areas.”

It also notes: “A reused queue line approximately 157 metres long within existing circulation space, respecting established tree canopies” would form part of the plans.

No details have been released about the theme or opening date.

The plans follow the launch of a Bluey-themed ride in March this year, the world's first rollercoaster themed around the popular children's character.
