£628,000 of improvements planned for Chesterton and Waterhays parks
They're include a big list of upgrades and new facilities
Families in Chesterton and Waterhays will soon benefit from £628,000 dedicated to enhancing local parks and open spaces.
Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council plans to use Section 106 contributions from nearby residential developments to enhance Chesterton Park and Waterhays.
This investment is part of the council's approach to leverage developer contributions and available funds to improve parks, play areas, and recreational facilities throughout the borough.
Projects planned for Chesterton Park include:
Refurbishment and improvement of the multi-use games area, including repairs, repainting, new basketball hoops, and replacement fencing and barriers
Installation of new play equipment
Creation of a new wheeled sports facility on the former tennis court
Development of a "learn to ride" area for younger children
Upgrades to entrances with new signage
Restoration and enhancement of the mining memorial and wheel
Improvement of the historic icehouse with a new plaque
Removal of damaged floodlights, tree stumps, and other unwanted elements
Enhancement of planting, fencing, and green areas throughout the park
Initial designs will be finalised based on public consultation.
Councillor Ben Simpson, Cabinet member for Waste, Recycling and Green Spaces, highlighted the importance of parks for families and affirmed the council's commitment to making tangible improvements.
Councillor Andrew Fisher, Cabinet member for Residents’ Services and Neighbourhoods, encouraged local residents to engage with the consultation process to ensure the investment delivers maximum community benefits.
