Detectives investigating an attempted murder have released further CCTV images of a man they believe is the suspect.

The clearer footage was provided by members of the public, after an appeal last night.

The images from Thursday 14 May, show the man before the attack at 6.36pm and then in a nearby street after the attack at 7pm. Police are now interested in anything from Newport Road towards the Highfields area.

Detectives continue to appeal for information to identify the man and ask that anyone who saw him or has CCTV they have not yet shared to do so.

Officers have also arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the investigation. He was initially arrested last night (18 May) on suspicion of criminal damage and public order offences. He remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald said: “Our investigation is moving at pace, and I want to thank those members of the public who have already helped us. The clearer CCTV we are releasing today was provided because of earlier appeals, which shows the real difference the community can make. But we still need your help to identify the man and would ask anyone who recognises him to get in touch as even the smallest detail could prove significant.

“We understand the impact this violent attack has had within the community and that it can impact feelings of safety. Local officers remain in the area to offer support, and the scene remains in place as a specialist search team continue their work.”
