Driver fined after driving into horse riders, leaving one horse dead in Marbury
Two horse-riders were knocked off their horses
A driver has been fined and banned after hitting two horse-riders in Marbury, Cheshire.
The collision, which happened in September 2024, resulted in the death of one of the horses, and both riders being injured.
The driver was found guilty of driving without due care and attention.
They received a fine of £867, a surcharge of £346, costs of £650, and a discretionary disqualification for 21 days.
"Monty is sadly missed by all those who knew and cared for him."
One of the horse-riders said in a statement, “On 17th September 2024 we decided to go for a hack, we tacked up and headed off down the country lanes as we have done many times before. We both had hi visibility vests on and both horses are sensible on the road. Another normal day.
"Unfortunately, our day did not end normally, after being hit by a car both horses ended up on the floor with us falling from them. Only one of our horses got up.
"This tragic incident has had a huge impact on us psychologically and physically, and we are lucky to be alive.
"Monty sadly wasn’t so lucky and had to be put to sleep on the roadside.
"After a long 15 months the driver was found guilty of driving without due care and attention.
"Monty is sadly missed by all those who knew and cared for him. Please remember him as we do, an irreplaceable Gentle Giant Friesian who was a beautiful companion and part of our family”.
Officers say this a reminder to take care and always pass horse riders wide and slow.
