Micky Moore named Sporting Director at Port Vale
New role comes with responsibility for football operations
Port Vale has announced the appointment of Micky Moore as Sporting Director, tasked with overseeing football operations and driving improvements across the club.
Moore joins from Cheltenham Town, where he had a prominent role during his four-and-a-half-year stint, culminating in the position of Director of Football.
He also held senior football and recruitment roles at Shrewsbury Town and within Birmingham City's recruitment department.
Moore played a key role in Cheltenham's promotion from League Two as champions in the 2020/21 season and secured their highest-ever league finish in League One the following year.
As Sporting Director, Moore will be responsible for the club's football department, including recruitment, scouting, player development, and overall strategic planning.
Speaking following his appointment, Moore said: “I can't wait to get going. Vale are a big club with big potential and I know from my many visits to Vale Park just how passionate the fans are here.
"I've followed from afar for some time now and seen the journey the club has been on since Carol and Kevin took over.
"I went in at Cheltenham when they were in a similar position; we had two seasons in League Two, finishing fourth and winning the title, so I know the challenge ahead of us and it's one I'm excited by.
"I'm really looking forward to meeting the staff, players and everyone connected with the club."
Matt Hancock added: “Micky brings a huge amount of football experience to the club and we’re delighted to welcome him to Vale Park.
“We were clear that the Sporting Director needed to have the freedom to look properly at the whole football operation, and Micky will have that autonomy.
"His job is to assess where we are, identify where we can improve and lead the development of a football operation that is consistent and sustainable.
“Micky has the experience and knowledge to lead that work and I’m really looking forward to working with him and seeing him get started.”
